ORDA

Head of Design

How might Felix enjoy his lunch break without having to get in line or rush after his colleagues?

ORDA was an early-stage startup in Munich that solved lunch break rush issues caused by office conglomerates by creating the first pre-ordering app for restaurants in business areas.

Designing for Product-Market Fit.

The app immediately appealed to our initial niche environment, an office building complex in Munich (Werksviertel). This enabled us to experiment quickly and realize that our product had the potential to deliver value outside of those environments. The challenge was distributing our partners throughout a broader area.

Running experiments

We ran several experiments and built user driven features like group ordering, a better ticketing system for partners, and motivation driven triggers for users to donate their tips to charity. ORDA's core offer was quite relevant and kept on giving, however, scalling the business did call for a bigger marketing budget.

A bittersweet reality

After a whole year putting lots of work onto the ORDA experience, the pandemic hit the gastro industry hard and our team didn't get the necessary funds to continue building. Restaurants closed and our main use case was no longer relevant. We did try running some experiments with safe and contactless pickups, or home cooks who would offer their meals to neighbours, but 2020 was unfortunately not the best for businesses like ORDA and our operation ended before it took off.
